DCBA Brief's From the Editor
June 2006

By John Pcolinski, Jr.

I must admit, I am a crank; and a sometimes sanctimonious one at that. In preparing this month’s comments, I had occasion to review some of my pages over the last publication year. I apologize if I sounded as if I was preaching or complaining. There is much to smile about in our world. Example: Recently, my 9 year old son asked me from the back seat: "Dad, is Mom a trophy wife?" (He never even looked up from the Game Boy). I told him: "Yeah, pal, I got lucky the first time." That kid cracks me up. (And my answer was true). I do recognize the blessings I have and the privilege it is to practice in DuPage County with all of you.

This month we have excellent articles on The Freedom of Information Act, The Open Meetings Act, jury selection/conduct issues in light of the George Ryan trial, computer discovery and issues involving road dedication and implications for title to land.

"The reward for a job well done is a well done job." That old saying sums up my feelings about the efforts of the entire Publication Board of The Brief this year. Together we have been able to publish a magazine of which I have been consistently proud and to do it with a great sense of collegiality. I want to thank our President, Chuck Roberts, for the opportunity to try to correct some of my short-comings from my prior stint as Editor, our desktop publisher, Mary Anne McManus, for her consistently excellent and timely work with layout and design on tight dead lines (exacerbated by delays she could only sigh about), Jacki Hamler for her steady support and excellent organization, all the members of the Publication Board, who have been enthusiastic, supportive and diligent and, of course, the contributing authors, without whom we would have nothing important to say. This month’s lead articles editor, Mazy Hedayat, has been a great associate editor and takes over as Editor commencing with the September edition. I am sure his efforts will only increase the reputation and quality of the magazine and our association. Best of luck, Mazy. Finally, to you our readers, I want to extend our thanks for your comments and encouragement. I hope we have and will continue to provide you with a publication which you enjoy and find relevant.
John Pcolinski, Jr., Editor
